“I was bawling my eyes out and I said, I’ve got to do something,” said Musician Christy Godders.

Godders partnered with the American Red Cross Lakeland Chapter to coordinate an 11 hour performance by local artists at Tom Dick and Harry’s in Ashwaubenon.

“It’s been 18 days now after the efforts and the pictures are going out of the media and to have benefits like this leaps it in the focus and the mindset of people,” said Jody Weyers with the American Red Cross.

Those attending the fundraiser say it’s an entertaining way to make a difference. Mary Jean Roovers said she wanted to donate to Haiti since the earthquake first happened, but never got around to it.

“When we got the notice about the benefit it seemed like the perfect way to combine love of music and also to help with the tragedy,” said Roovers.

Weyers said as time passes, it’s important people are reminded help is still needed.

“The needs are still there. This is gonna be a long relief operation and money is still gonna be needed,” said Weyers.

Music wasn’t the only the event offered. It also had guitars, toys, prizes and even an autographed football donated by the Green Bay Packers up for auction.

While the volunteers’ goal is to entertain patrons with a variety of bands, it’s the donations and generosity that brings music to their ears.
