“Dancing with Our Stars” for the American Red Cross moving to KI Convention Center in Downtown Green Bay

6th annual event will be held Saturday, February 15th, 2014

Downtown Green Bay is the new destination for the annual “Dancing with Our Stars” event benefiting the American Red Cross of Northeast Wisconsin. The KI Convention Center will host the prestigious fundraiser Saturday, February 15, 2014. The event, now in its sixth year, resembles ABC Television’s hit “Dancing with the Stars” and features ten community members (known as “star dancers”) who compete both on the dance floor and to raise money for the local Red Cross.

“We are excited about partnering with the KI Convention Center and continuing to grow our amazing event,” says Shawn Kiser, Special Events Coordinator for the Red Cross.  “Dancing with Our Stars sells out every year and we look forward to the opportunity to entertain 1,000 guests at the KI.”

“We welcome the Red Cross and DWOS event to downtown with open arms.  Their event will be a unique addition to the growing list of activities taking place throughout the year in the Green Bay’s cultural center.” said Jeff Mirkes, Executive Director, Downtown Green Bay, Inc. & Olde Main Street, Inc.

The 2013 Dancing with Our Stars campaign, headlined by last month’s dancing competition, raised nearly $370,000 in net revenue for the Red Cross. Betina Driver took home the coveted Mirror Ball Fundraising Trophy. She danced with her husband, former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver, and raised $158,000.

Not only do those in attendance support local efforts, so can those not attending as the “star dancers” receive votes in the form of donations to the Red Cross. One dollar equals one vote. All funds raised support disaster prevention, preparation and relief, the life-saving training of first aid, CPR/AED classes, collection and testing of blood and blood products, support to military members serving around the globe, the transportation program and international programs.

The participants for Dancing with Our Stars 2014 will be announced sometime this fall. To nominate someone, email Shawn Kiser: Shawn.Kiser@redcross.org.

Legato Spreads the Spirit of Giving through Facebook “Like” Campaign

Two months after Superstorm Sandy hit the East Coast, millions of people are still suffering this holiday season due to the devastation it left in its wake. To help alleviate some of the suffering, Legato Healthcare Marketing plans to donate $2,000 to the American Red Cross relief efforts.

Because it is the holiday season, Legato wants to spread this gift beyond themselves; they’re asking for your help and participation.

Helping is easy. All you have to do is “Like” Legato’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/LegatoMarketing). For every new Like, Legato will donate $1 to Superstorm Sandy Relief, up to the desired $2,000. The total donation will go towards food, shelter, emotional support and other assistance.

Legato and the American Red Cross of Northeastern Wisconsin would love this to be a holiday gift to those in need, so a deadline has been set for December 25 to reach the goal of 2,000 Likes.

In helping to arrange Legato’s donation, Shawn Kiser, from the American Red Cross of Northeast Wisconsin said, “This campaign provides people a simple way to support those affected by Superstorm Sandy. I encourage everyone to “like” Legato Healthcare Marketing’s page and please ask all of your Facebook friends to do the same! The more “likes” the more money Legato will donate to Sandy Relief. I hope other businesses will take notice of this effort and try to find creative ways to help those in need.”

“Thanks to the public’s support, the Red Cross has been able to provide food, shelter, relief supplies and comfort to thousands of people impacted by Sandy. Our work includes serving more than 8.7 million meals and snacks and handing out more than 6.5 million relief items, including cold weather items and cleanup supplies, ” Kiser also said.

Welcome Shawn Kiser – Special Events Coordinator

I’m excited to be part of the team at the American Red Cross in Northeast Wisconsin! I’ve called this corner of the world home my entire life. I grew up in Fond du Lac and moved to the Green Bay area in 2005. Prior to becoming the Special Events Coordinator here, I worked in the broadcasting industry. That includes 10 years of radio in Fond du Lac at KFIZ-AM, four years of radio in Green Bay at WTAQ-AM/Midwest Communications and four years of television at WBAY-TV.

During my time at WBAY-TV I was able to attend several of the American Red Cross “Dancing with the Stars” events. It’s a very successful and entertaining fundraiser and I’m looking forward to helping plan, coordinate and execute that event as part of my new job. My first two weeks have been great! My team members are very helpful and the volunteers are amazing! I applaud their dedication to such a worthy cause.

When I’m not working I’m spending time with my three-year-old daughter Calleigh Mae. She is my life and I love her very much.
