This is the fourth year Rob Anthony will be putting on a concert to celebrate March Red Cross Month to raise awareness for the organization and their service.
The Red Cross can have an impact on anyone’s life at any time, and this concert is to remind people of that. From CPR and lifeguard classes to blood donations and disaster services, the Red Cross helps people directly or indirectly each year. Come to the concert to hear and share stories and enjoy Rob’s music!

In honor of World AIDS Day, Wednesday, December 1, 20 UWGB students met at the Mauthe Center, on the campus of UWGB, to make comfort dolls. The Red Cross Club partnered with the College Crafters Club in assisting and teaching us how to knit and crochet. We didn’t finish any dolls that night, but the students will be able to work on them through the interim and in January we will come back together to see our success.

World AIDS Day 2010 is a time for the international community to raise awareness, commemorate those who have passed away, and celebrate the victories in HIV/AIDS prevention. Above all, it is a day to take action.
The UWGB Red Cross club is doing just that. On Wednesday, December 1st they will be getting crafting and creating comfort dolls for the Nyaka AIDS Orphans Project.
About the Comfort Doll Project: When orphans first come to school, they are often not mentally prepared to learn. At this stage in their young lives they are grieving the loss of their parent. These times also include fear of the unknown, loneliness, anger, depression, hunger and illness. Unfortunately, our littlest orphans find it very difficult to deal with academic stress while coping with nightmares and psychological trauma.
At Nyaka, our goal is not only to care for our children’s academic and nutritional needs, but to care for our children’s psychological and emotional needs, as well. We offer various ways to help every student grow into confident, inspired young adults. One of those ways is the Comfort Doll Project. Not only do these dolls help our children adapt to school life, they help them cope with all they must endure on a day-to-day basis.

“Holiday Mail for Heroes” to Deliver Greetings to U.S. Military Members and Veterans
For a fourth year, the American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes Inc. are teaming up to deliver holiday cards to service members, their families and veterans, many of whom will be far from home this holiday season. The Holiday Mail for Heroes program provides Americans with the opportunity to send holiday greetings and a note of thanks to our men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Between September 7 and December 10, the public is invited to send a “touch of home” through holiday cards that contain messages of cheer and appreciation. The Red Cross and Pitney Bowes will then screen cards for hazardous materials, sort and package the cards, and deliver them to military bases and hospitals, veteran’s hospitals and other locations during the holidays. Pitney Bowes is providing all screening, packaging and shipping at no charge. The Red Cross will utilize hundreds of volunteers to sort and box cards for delivery to service men and women, veterans and family members in November and December.
“Sending a greeting card is a small effort that makes a big impact for our American heroes during the holiday season,” said Jody Weyers, volunteer and communications director, Lakeland Chapter. “The American Red Cross serves and supports members of the military, veterans, and their families by providing emergency communications, comfort and assistance each day. The Holiday Mail for Heroes program continues the Red Cross tradition of service to the armed forces.”

Last year, with the help of Pitney Bowes, hundreds of volunteers screened, sorted and packaged cards that were delivered to military bases, veteran and military hospitals across the U.S. and around the world.
“Few can truly understand the tremendous sacrifice that our military personnel and their families make every single day on the nation’s behalf,” said Vicki O’Meara, senior vice president and president of Pitney Bowes Management Services and government & regulatory affairs. “Now more than ever, it is important for all Americans to seize the opportunity to say ‘thank you.’ We are thrilled to join with the American Red Cross to help make that happen.”
Locally we are supporting the program by introducing it to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. The UWGB Red Cross Club is partnering with the Student Life UWGB Nites event on Saturday, November 6, 10:00pm-1:00am on campus. “With the help of faculty and students we are spreading the word about the Holiday Mail program and we are hoping to have over 300 cards made by students at this event,” said Kristie Walker, UWGB Red Cross club member. “This is a great way to engage the community’s youth in helping support our Armed Services.”

Earth Day is April 22nd, but some volunteers rolled up their sleeves a week early.
They got their hands dirty doing some spring cleaning around downtown Green Bay, picking up trash.
“It’s a good reminder to just take pride in the Earth around us and to do your part to clean up,” Megan Vanhulle of the Red Cross chapter at UW-Green Bay said.

February 2, The Office of Student Life and the Good Times Programming student organization sponsored Blake Mycoskie’s visit to UW-Green Bay. Student Life Program Coordinator Grant Winslow said Josh Braun and Kyra Karenke from Good Times, and Mike Crum with the Red Cross Club and Katie Barrientos with the Social Work Club have been instrumental in planning the visit.
